MEET YOUR COACH
I am most definitely a "half full" person! And not just in terms of how I prefer my wineglass to be! I refuse to be defeated in the face of adversity, and can always find the positives, no matter how bleak my situation my feel.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned in life is how tragic it is to live with regret. My life changing event came at age 27 when my husband died from cancer. His biggest regret was not to be able to see our young son riding his bike, learning to swim or to drive his first car. Sadly, we had no control over these events. However, there are many events in our lives that we do have control over. My philosophy is to not spend my twilight years obsessing over the regrets I have about the experiences I was too afraid to try in my life. I intend to spend my twilight years chuckling at all the chances I took, mistakes I made, and successes I enjoyed along the way!
As well as my passion for coaching, I am also undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am completely committed to the helping profession, and absolutely believe in the power of listening. Being heard acts as a catalyst for change. I also do volunteer bereavement counselling for CRUSE bereavement care, a role that I am very connected to.
In other areas of my life, I enjoy spending quality time with my 9 year old son, that is when I can tear his attention away from MSN, and his obsession with WWE wrestling! I also have something of a blended family of my own, and spend many happy hours with my partner and his 9 year old son.
Due to all of the above life is rarely quiet. But I do walk my talk and create opportunities to relax! I can be found in many a wine bar sampling the delights of New World wine. At even quieter moments, one of my secret pleasures is sitting in Borders, drinking really expensive coffee, reading their books for free, and having priceless moments just watching the world go by. Oh yes, and as part of my "no regrets" philosophy I have also discovered total freedom riding on the back of my
partner's Triumph Rocket III Motorbike. That's a 2300cc engine, for those of you who fail to be impressed...
Some of my more maddening qualities are my eternal quest for finding meaning in life, my stubbornness, and my determination to succeed; all qualities which are completely beneficial to coaching clients, but quite infuriating for those who have to put up with me every day.
Finally, on a practical note, I am a qualified Counsellor, and also a member of
BACP (British
Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
