Balance work and family
One of the greatest underestimations of our modern time, is the vital role that father"s play in raising and developing their children. The needs of Fathers are often overlooked both in the work and the home environment.
Perhaps the greatest challenge any working dad faces is managing to get work time and family time in harmony. Most fathers have full time jobs and work on average 47 hours a week. They tend to work 20 hours a week more than employed mothers and four hours longer than men without children.
Dads have a crucial role to play in their children's upbringing, and some men find being forced to choose between being good parents and good workers a difficult burden.
In my experience, Dads often feel under considerable pressure to work long hours as traditionally this has been associated with job success, and in the past, success as a father has been tied to success as a breadwinner. But the long hours culture in many British companies can result in men's role within the family becoming increasingly marginalised.
The "machismo" of work is also deeply ingrained in the male psyche. Fathers often believe that, as men, their role is to work long and hard so they tend to deny or minimise (to themselves and others) the conflicts they experience between work and family life.
